Eye
Care opened in February of 2005 just three months after primary care began, and quite unexpectedly. Shortly after we opened Good Neighbors, a lady called and wanted to donate three showcases for eye glasses, along with almost 700 frames, some lenses and equipment from her brother who was downsizing his optical practice. In one weeks time, with no recruiting by Good Neighbors, an optometrist and four opticians came forward to offer their services " if we ever open an eye care department!"
In addition to assessing vision and determining the correct prescription for
glasses, the board certified eye doctors screen patients for glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic
retinopathy and the ocular effects of other medical conditions.
The
opticians who serve at Good Neighbors have many years of experience dispensing
and fitting glasses and carefully help patients choose frames which suit them. The optical area carries a large selection of frames which are
available free of charge to patients, limited to once every two years.
Patients are seen on a first come, first
served basis and a limited number of patients can be seen each session. |
